Japanese White-Eye

While traveling on a not-so-remote island in the Pacific, I spotted (and watercolored) this little guy...the Japanese White-Eye. Actually, this not-so-elusive songbird is the most common bird on the Hawaiian islands. Common or not, he is a beauty.

Before I ventured to Hawaii I was absolutely in love with a book by Kate Williamson titled, "A Year in Japan". My plan was similar to hers: draw + watercolor as many interesting aspects as possible of the lovely island of Oahu. But alas, between eating large amounts of Poke, checking out the surfers at Pipeline + Sunset Beach + reading "Eddie Would Go", I just didn't have enough time to draw all the beautiful fauna (except for Mr. White-Eye) + flora (except for a palm tree [sooo typical]).

So, I've decided to start drawing + watercoloring the lovely features of the beautiful state of Oregon. Plenty of time for that. And plenty of beauty.
